Zoning and Subdivision Regulations
Convener: Joe Fuqua/Jerry Cargile (Count: 32)
Headlines:
- SWM (Storm Water Management) regulations determined by engineering and adopted by city council. Need to discuss more progressive approach in regulations.
- Current zoning regulations are "piecemeal." A potential solution in the works is looking at a TNO "overlay" to allow "mixed use development," and hopefully "cluster development."
- The "TND overlay" will also evaluate options for shared parking issues ("smart growth overlay" is also an option).
- There is a strong need for an educational component for both the general public and regulatory side including ROI.
- The next "research park" should be a "model for green/sustainable development."
- Decision makers are staff, planning commission, and city council.
- Need to also look at street widths (fire marshall and utilities set the criteria)
Next Steps: Required Actions
- Do a "smart audit" of the current zoning and subdivision regulations
- Formulate a strategy for public education to get their buy-in and support for change.
