Message from Mayor Buddy Dyer
I am proud and excited to unveil Green Works Orlando, the City’s first comprehensive plan to protect our natural resources, encourage environmentally-friendly lifestyles and business practices and engage everyone who lives, works and visits Central Florida in the effort to “go green.”
Green Works Orlando is an environmental action agenda designed to transform Orlando into one of the most environmentally-conscious cities in America. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, our plan focuses on immediate and dramatic actions to:
- Conserve natural resources and protect the environment
- Invest in green buildings, vehicles and materials
- Foster alternative transportation options
- Increase the amount of trees and green spaces in the City
- Provide residents the tools and information they need to become more environmentally responsible
- Work together as a community to combat the urgent threat of global climate threat
Green Works Orlando also represents the commitment of the Orlando City Council to utilizing the City’s regional leadership position to build partnerships and share resources that will foster positive, environmental changes. It’s our opportunity to lead by example and promote environmental stewardship. It’s our chance to educate people about “going green” and encourage others to incorporate a concern for the environment into the everyday workings of government and private business.
On a personal level, I am passionate about this plan because the ultimate beneficiaries of our work will be our children and grandchildren. These first important steps we are pursuing will be the catalyst for a host of important changes that puts Orlando on a course toward long-term sustainability.
Working together, I know we can make a cleaner, greener and better Orlando for generations to come.

“The Green Cities Conference in Orlando was one of the most inspiring events I have sponsored. The management, staff and volunteers at Green Cities were totally dedicated and thoughtful. It was an excellent forum to meet and interact with hard to reach policy makers at government and county levels. I do not want to miss your next exhibitions, please keep me posted. Thanks for the personal attention.”
