Karen Green, Program Manager for Environmental Initiatives at the Walt Disney World Resort, began her Disney career in 1975 working in Food and Beverage, Merchandise and Front Office Operations before moving to the Environmental Initiatives Department in 1996.

Her primary responsibilities in the Environmental Initiatives Department involve organizing, facilitating and coaching Environmental Circles of Excellence for several operating areas including Disney’s 24 Florida hotels.

Karen helps to organize these Environmental Circles of Excellence and then assists in identifying ways to improve their environmental efficiencies. She provides advice, training, and best practice information. The issues addressed include water and energy conservation, waste reduction, and increasing Cast Members awareness of how actions impact the environment. Emphasis is placed on healthy environmental practices that make good business sense.

Karen was a participant with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in the development of their Florida Green Lodging Program and has successfully coached all of Disney’s Florida based hotels through the Green Lodging assessment process.

She is a member, and past Chair, of the Engineering & Environment Committee for the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

She is also past chair for the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Committee and a representative for the Red Cross in the Polk County Emergency Operations Center in times of need.

Her other activities include kayaking, hiking, working with service dogs for the hearing impaired, biking and reading non-fiction.
