Jordanna Rubin

Jordanna Rubin has a diverse professional background in environmental management and resource conservation. Ms. Rubin holds a Masters in Public Administration, with a concentration in Environmental and Energy Policy, and a certificate in Conservation Biology from Columbia University in New York City. Ms. Rubin began her career working for the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies analyzing wetland inventories for the Ramsar Convention. Prior to returning to her home town in Miami, she became the Assistant Director of the Energy Policy Research Center at Columbia University, managing both the academic program and research initiatives.

Most recently, Ms. Rubin was the Environmental Resources Manager for the Environmental Division at the City of Miami Beach. She was responsible for the management of all environmental projects and regulations within the City and served as a liaison to local and state environmental regulatory agencies. Mrs. Rubin was the project manager for the design, engineering, and construction of over 15 Public Works construction projects, including South Beach’s “Beachwalk,” dune habitat restoration, beach renourishments and construction of a living seawall along Collins Canal.

Mrs. Rubin is a client project manager for Shaw’s Sustainability Services National Practice Program and manages projects for both local government and retail clients. She has experience with both the private and public sector in developing sustainability policies, environmental stewardship reports, environ-mentally preferred purchasing guidelines, GHG inventories and LEED design review. Ms. Rubin currently serves as Co-Chair of the Local Government Committee of the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) and is a founding member of the Dade County Bar Association’s Citizen Advisory Council. In addition, she is a member of the South Florida Chapter of the US Green Building Council, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association and the Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce, Going Green Task Force.

Federal to Local: Translating the Stimulus Package for local governments

A discussion on opportunities and challenges local governments may face with pending environmental policies and programs being developed by the Obama Administration. Presentation will include a review of potential public policies as they relate to local governments; analyze possible effects on operations and strategies to manage and incorporate these changes; and explore opportunities for local governments based on the new policies. We will explore four policy areas: energy (renewable and alternative); green infrastructure; water conservation; and waste management.
