Matt Bauer

Matt Bauer has worked to improve communities in the US and abroad in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors over the past 20 years. Before co-founding BetterWorld Telecom, Matt served in a series of leadership roles in the telecommunications and power industries, including the AES Corporation, NETtel Communications and Valucom. He has helped to start or significantly grow a number of non-profits over the past 10 years including the Charleston, SC-based Lowcountry Local First, the Sitar Center for Children and the Arts in Washington, DC, and Atlanta-based True Colors Theatre Company. Matt is a member of the Social Venture Network and on the board of directors for the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, GreenNonprofits, the Noisette Foundation, and the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts. He holds a BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University, an MBA from The George Washington University and has completed executive coursework at MIT. Matt is co-editor and co-author of upcoming Green Non-Profits Handbook, to be published by Wiley & Sons in late 2009, and speaks often on the topic of sustainability in the telecommunications industry and local living economies, most recently at the 2009 Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association Green Telecom Summit, the Atlanta GreenBusinessWorks Expo, and the Association for Enterprise Opportunity Regional Flavor Cluster conference.
