Mike Italiano

Mike Italiano is President & Chief Executive Officer for Market Transformation to Sustainability (MTS) and Capital Markets Partnership. He founded the Capital Markets Partnership, MTS, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Risk-Based Corrective Action (RBCA) Leadership Council, and American Society of Testing & Materials (ASTM) Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment. He is a Director of MTS, USGBC, USGBC CEO Board, Sustainable Furniture Council, and former Director of ASTM and Chairman of ASTM E50. Mike has been responsible at over 200 waste sites for expert testimony, litigation, cleanup, settlement, and scientific and technical analysis.
He published over 50 articles in the environmental field and authored four environmental books.
He has over 35 years of environmental experience including as Senior Analyst in the White House Science Office and Assistant to the Director, National Commission on Water Quality where he helped write the Congressional Report on the Clean Water Act.

SMaRT Sustainable Products Standard Education:
SMaRT is a transparent, consensus sustainable product standard used for city purchasing. It is the leading Standard in the market with the most adoptions.
SMaRT is part of the Capital Markets Sustainable Investment Initiative and its Green Building Underwriting Standard. The US Conference of Mayors support the Initiative and call for 2.8 million green and climate neutral buildings and 1.2 million certified sustainable products by 2015 to stimulate the economy and stop imminent irreversible dangerous climate change.
SMaRT is approved for LEED green building credit. Independent and legally binding third party certification and global auditing is required.
Workshop
Capital Markets Partnership (CMP) Green Building Underwriting Standards
The consensus Standards score all properties and portfolios from 1-100 based on how much they increase cash flow & value, and reduce expenses. The Standards are prerequisites for green building financing pursuant to CMP / Council of Developing Financing Agencies Green Building Financing Program.
The Standards cover ENERGY STAR Score, ENERGY STAR Certification, LEED, Certified Climate Neutral, locational and other green building attributes, and certification by an environmental professional.
