Walt Thomson
Walt Thomson directs terrestrial conservation for the Nature Conservancy's Florida program. He began his career as a ranger in the Florida Park Service in 1983. He later worked as an aquatic preserve manager, state reserve manager, biologist, environmental specialist and regional biologist for the Florida Park Service. In 1993, he became the first preserve manager for the Conservancy’s 12,000-acre Disney Wilderness Preserve, one of the country’s premier mitigation projects using prescribed burning and wetlands restoration.
Walt received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Stetson University and a master’s degree in biology from the University of Central Florida. He was appointed to the Florida Department of Forestry’s Blue Ribbon Panel in 2005 to produce the “State of Florida Forest Health.”
